7 benefits of choosing a raised bed for your dog.

When we designed our first timber dog bed we knew we wanted it to be elevated. There is nothing worse than having your dogs bed sitting on the ground collecting dirt and looking a bit blah next to the rest of your thoughtfully chosen furniture. We wanted to create a bed that not only complimented our interior style but was also easy to maintain.

So what are the other benefits of choosing a raised bed for your dog?

1-     Bedding stays cleaner for longer

Before we made our first dog bed we went through a few cheapy floor cushions from the usual big retail suspects like Kmart and Bunnings and every single one of them was such a pain to clean! Majority of the time this was because the cushion cover didn’t come off so washing meant the entire cushion had to be immersed in water and soaked, scrubbed by hand and then somehow dried which took an eternity not to mention that our pup Maybel would be without her bed for the duration. We fast realised that these options were not designed for ease of maintenance or longevity.

With an elevated dog bed the cushion and insert aren’t sitting directly on the ground collecting dirt, dust and a hefty smell due to the lack of circulation between your pooch, the cushion and the floor. Instead the cushion is supported by the frame and can be lifted out and vacuumed under periodically. The cushion insert can be hung up outside to air and the cover can be tossed in the washing machine and hung out to dry in no time. Go one step further and invest and a second cushion cover and your pooch is back snoozing on their bed in no time smelling and looking fresh as a daisy.

2-     A raised bed keeps them warm in winter and cool in summer

Another great reason to invest in a raised dog bed is because it keeps your pup warmer in winter and cooler in summer. A standard dog bed designed to sit directly on the floor doesn’t factor in the surface that it will be placed on. Is it concrete, carpet, tiles or floorboards?  In winter flooring like concrete, tiles and floorboards are cold and work negatively against your dog’s body warmth making it harder for them to get warm. Conversely in summer an elevated bed ensures your dog stays cool by providing optimal airflow both under and around the bed.

3-     They are easy to clean under

A raised dog bed can be vacuumed under! This is super convenient when you are whipping around doing a tidy up and can sneak the vacuum underneath the frame and around the legs. We have recently invested in deebot robot vacuum and we were pleasantly surprised that it fits underneath our beds and is able to clean the floor beneath and around the bed effectively. It couldn’t get any easier than that!

4-     Being elevated makes your dog feel part of the living space

A raised dog bed is a great middle ground between having your dog on your couch with you and having them sleep on the ground. We have found that our dogs love their beds because they know this is their space to relax and unwind while we are doing the same on the couch. When they want some time out or to be left alone they go straight to their beds and curl up for some rest time. Even though we love the idea of having our pups on the couch with us we found that we were fighting for space. We also really appreciate beautiful furniture so we didn’t want to have to put a cover on our couch to accommodate them or watch our couch succumb to hair, dirt and the daily smell that was too irresistible not to roll in.

5-     They are durable and easy to maintain

Just like a timber bed frames built for humans, a timber bed frame for dogs is built to last. Timber is a durable material that is not only timeless in its appearance but is also easy to clean. Just like any other piece of timber furniture our beds can be dusted, vacuumed or wiped clean with a damp cloth to have them looking as good as new.

6- Their bedding stays put

Some dogs just love to drag their bed around! Who knows why they do it but do they really need a reason?

All I know is that these beds take a beating getting dragged from one room to another collecting dust and everything else in their path. The great news is that with a raised dog bed like ours the cushion is snuggly positioned within the safety of four timber walls making it difficult to remove and drag around. We've had many customers who are thankful that their dogs bed has finally found a permanent location.

7- They just look good!

Let’s face it the biggest benefit of opting for a raised dog bed is that the elevated design just looks good! The purposeful design combined with quality materials and construction ensures that your dogs bed is not just the perfect place for your dog to lay his/her head but is also a thoughtfully curated piece that compliments your interior design aesthetics.
